Living in Burke Mountain, Coquitlam

Located in Northeast Coquitlam, Burke Mountain is a growing residential community surrounded by forests, parks and an extensive network of trails. Homes on Highland places residents within a neighbourhood that combines a natural mountain setting with access to schools, recreation, shopping and everyday services.

With a growing collection of parks, new community facilities and expanding schools and recreational amenities, Burke Mountain continues to develop as a family-oriented community within Coquitlam. The neighbourhood is also close to the broader amenities of Coquitlam and the Tri-Cities, providing access to shopping, restaurants, recreation and transportation connections.

Nearby Schools in Burke Mountain

Burke Mountain is home to several schools serving families throughout the community, including Smiling Creek Elementary, Leigh Elementary and Coast Salish Elementary. Smiling Creek Elementary also incorporates the City of Coquitlam's Smiling Creek Activity Centre, providing community recreation programming through the school's gymnasium, multipurpose room, sport courts and playground facilities.

A new Burke Mountain Secondary School is also under construction as the community continues to grow. School District 43 currently lists the project with a planned completion of Fall 2027. The new school is being developed alongside the Burke Mountain Athletic Park, creating an integrated school and recreation destination for the growing neighbourhood.

School assignments and catchment areas can change as the community develops, so prospective homeowners should confirm current school boundaries directly with School District 43.

Parks, Trails & Outdoor Recreation

One of Burke Mountain's defining characteristics is its access to nature. The community is surrounded by forests, parks and trails, providing opportunities for walking, hiking, cycling, running and outdoor recreation. Nearby natural areas include Pinecone Burke Provincial Park, Minnekhada Regional Park and the trails and green spaces throughout Burke Mountain. Tourism Coquitlam highlights the neighbourhood's combination of residential streets, green space, hiking and mountain biking opportunities.

Closer to home, Burke Mountain includes a growing network of neighbourhood parks designed for everyday family recreation. Riley Park, for example, features an accessible pathway, children's playground, open lawn areas, picnic spaces and scenic viewpoints. Burke Mountain Pioneer Park provides a community garden, sport court, neighbourhood sports field, playground features, trails and open lawn areas.

The newly completed Burke Mountain Athletic Park adds another significant recreation destination to the area. Located alongside the new Burke Mountain Secondary School, the facility includes a 400-metre running track, artificial turf field and four full-sized lit tennis courts.

Shopping, Services & Community Amenities

Burke Mountain's growing commercial areas provide convenient access to everyday shopping, dining and services, while larger retail destinations in Coquitlam are also within easy reach.

The broader Northeast Coquitlam area includes neighbourhood retail and services around David Avenue and Coast Meridian Road, while Coquitlam Centre and other major shopping areas provide a wider selection of stores, restaurants, services and everyday amenities. Tourism Coquitlam identifies the David Avenue and Coast Meridian Road area as a growing commercial hub for the Burke Mountain community.

The neighbourhood is also gaining significant new community infrastructure. The Burke Mountain Community Centre and Burke Village Park are currently under construction and are expected to open in 2029. The planned community centre will include a six-lane lap pool, leisure pool, hot pool, steam room, sauna, climbing wall, double gymnasium, fitness centre, multipurpose spaces and a new Coquitlam Public Library branch. The adjacent Burke Village Park will include a splash pad, open gathering spaces and an accessible pathway through the park.

Together, these existing and planned amenities are contributing to the continued growth of Burke Mountain as a connected residential community with a strong emphasis on outdoor recreation, family amenities and access to nature.

A Growing Community

Burke Mountain Athletic Park

Burke Mountain residents now have access to a major new outdoor recreation destination with the opening of Burke Mountain Athletic Park in Northeast Coquitlam. Located at 3390/3400 David Avenue alongside the future Burke Mountain Middle/Secondary School, this multi-use facility provides additional opportunities for sports, fitness and outdoor activities.

The park features a 400-metre lit running track, a full-size artificial turf field and four full-sized tennis courts with lighting. Public washrooms are available, while on-site parking is expected to open following completion of the adjacent school site.

Developed in partnership with School District 43, Burke Mountain Athletic Park adds valuable recreational amenities to this growing Coquitlam neighbourhood, providing a shared outdoor space for residents, students and local sports groups.

Burke Mountain Community Centre & Burke Village Park

The Burke Mountain neighbourhood is continuing to grow, with the Burke Mountain Community Centre and adjacent Burke Village Park set to bring a major new recreation and community hub to Northeast Coquitlam. Currently under construction, the community centre and park are expected to open in 2029.

The planned community centre will offer a wide range of indoor recreation and community facilities, including a six-lane lap pool, leisure pool with a lazy river, hot pool, steam room, sauna, climbing wall, drop slide, double gymnasium and fully equipped fitness centre. Flexible multi-purpose rooms will accommodate programs, classes, meetings and community events. The facility will also include a new branch of the Coquitlam Public Library.

Beside the centre, Burke Village Park will provide outdoor gathering spaces, flexible seating, an interactive splash pad and accessible pathways connecting the park with the surrounding neighbourhood. Together, these facilities are planned as an important part of Burke Mountain Village, a developing neighbourhood centre with future retail, services and pedestrian connections.

These new public amenities will expand the recreation, learning and gathering opportunities available to residents of Burke Mountain and the wider Coquitlam community.
